SUPPORTING RESCUE - Dogs Friends

Our Supporting Rescue collection helps do a little good while raising a smile. A percentage  of the proceeds from selected products will be donated to support dog rescues, helping dogs in need find safety, care and, with luck, a sofa to take over.

Lovely things for terrier and dog people — with a little extra purpose.

£1  from every sale with go to Dogs Friends.

Dogs Friends is a small, independent rescue based in Somerset, run by a dedicated team of volunteers who help unwanted, abandoned and vulnerable dogs find safe, loving homes. They’ve been rehoming dogs since 2007 and believe every dog deserves a chance, regardless of age, size, breed or background.

Wherever possible, dogs are cared for in foster homes rather than kennels. That gives them the chance to settle into normal home life, allows their personalities to emerge, and helps Dogs Friends work out exactly what sort of forever home will suit them best. They also take in dogs needing veterinary treatment, former breeding dogs, strays and dogs whose owners can no longer care for them — which means vet bills alone run into tens of thousands of pounds every year.

Dogs Friends is particularly special to Merrier Terrier because it’s where Pickles came from.

Pickles arrived here as my first — and, as it turned out, only — attempt at fostering. The idea was that I would give him a safe temporary home until the right adopter came along.

There was just one flaw in the plan.

I couldn’t let him go.

So Pickles became what rescue people affectionately call a foster fail and joined the family permanently. I may not have proved terribly useful as a long-term foster carer, but Dogs Friends gave me Pickles — which is a fairly convincing reason for Merrier Terrier to want to give something back.

£1 from the sale of our Dogs Friends “All Roads Lead to Home” collection is donated to the rescue, helping towards the food, veterinary treatment and care needed to give more dogs their own route home.
